How to Create a '20s Costume for Women

The 1920s flapper is a stunning hit at any costume party. Although she appears glitzy, her look is simple, with only a few special accessories. Here are a few steps to help you achieve a glamorous 1920's look.

Things You'll Need:

Dancing Shoes With 2- To 3-inch Heels

Flapper Costumes

Thigh-high Nude Or Pale Hosiery

Hair Gel

Lipstick

Lipstick

Hairpins

Pearl Necklaces

Step
1

Slick back your hair with hair gel. If your hair is long, apply gel, pull hair back and twist it into a bun. Pin the bun at the base of your neck.

Step
2

Put on bright red lipstick and emphasize the bow of your upper lip.

Step
3

Pull on nude or pale thigh-high stockings.

Step
4

Wiggle into a knee-length sleeveless dress, either without a waist or with a waist that is almost below your hips. A fringe at the hem is optional. Silk or chiffon looks best.

Step
5

Place a glittery headband on your head, adjusting for comfort. Insert a 10-inch feather into the left side of the headband, securing the feather with hairpins.

Step
6

Put on a 36-inch-long faux pearl necklace. It will look best if it falls to your abdomen.

Step
7

Wear dancing shoes with 2- to 3-inch heels.
